Artists' Books: NIVAL

INFO

National Irish Visual Arts Library

"The NIVAL collection of Artists Books is comprised of more than 1000 titles by artists born in Ireland and by non-Irish artists living and/or working in Ireland. The works are made by individual artists, groups of collaborating artists, or artist and writer partnerships. The collection consists of hand-made, letterpress, and published works, both unique and in editions, and created in a variety of materials. Priority for acquisition is given to books wherein the artist has complete control over the creative process.
The library began collecting Irish Artists Books in 1997 and continues to actively acquire new works through donation or purchase."-NIVAL

Préachán by Sarah Lewtas

Préachán is a wonderfully strange artist's book. The pages are bound between two wings and a shaped to match the curves of the bird's wings. In these pages there is an Irish translation of a section from Ted Hughes' poem Crow(préachán being crow in Irish).

Amhrán Grá by Frances Breen

Amhrán Grá by Frances Breen

In this grey box with the words 'Amhrán Grá' written on it, a collection of material - a booklet, a small section of sheet music, a CD - can be found. Frances Breen's account of Cearbhall Ó Dálaigh's love story is a beautiful selection of song, drawings and text.
