Introduction: Antropology

Anthropology is the scientific study of humans, human behavior and societies in the past and present. Social anthropology studies patterns of behavior and cultural anthropology studies cultural meaning, including norms and values. Linguistic anthropology studies how language influences social life. Traditionally, the anthropology of art has tended to focus on the interpretation of tribal artifacts. However in recent times, artists have begin to interrogate the issues surrounding this field.

The Welfare of Tomás Ó Hallissy (2017) by Duncan Campbell. "Filmed in and around the Kerry village of Dún Chaoin the film integrates newlyscripted dramatised material with footage from The Village (1968), a film which Campbell encountered during research at the IFI Irish Film Archive. This new film is set against a fictional visit by two American anthropologists to Dún Chaoin, mirroring the premise of the earlier documentary, and re-imagining everyday sequences – turf cutting, rabbit hunting, and gatherings in the local pub – to prompt consideration of the relationship between the filmmakers, societal shifts and misrepresentations of rural Ireland."
