THE SHAPE OF ILLUSTRATION — Vol. 2

For this project, NCAD Illustration staff and students teamed up with Illustrators Ireland to introduce students to the working methods and professional practices of contemporary illustration in Ireland. The Project began with a great talk about the work that Illustrators Ireland do in supporting the development of illustration in the country and then students had the opportunity to chat with a working illustrator — finding out what shaped them in becoming the people they are today and discovering the joys and challenges that come from working professionally in the field. The module (2022/2023) also included trips to Damn Fine Print, Little Deer Comics, Michael Biggs' remarkable work at the Arbour Hill Memorial, and the ‘Why be an artist?’ exhibition at the NCAD Gallery as a means to emphasis just how important it is for illustrators to have places and spaces for seeing and making work.
