Introduction: Curatorial Practice

The role of the curator has historically been defined as being a custodian of artefacts or artworks. With the word 'curator' tracing back to the Latin 'cura' meaning 'to care', the role of the curator can be synonymous with preservation, non-evasiveness and even neutral. However, developing in the 1960s, curatorial practices explored the bigger potential of the curator. Questioning the boundaries between artist/curator, artwork/exhibition making and what do these categories mean to each other. This libguide provides a preliminary introduction to the subject of curatorial practices.
